Ann Eliza Wall was the first child of William Wall & Mary Ball born July 14th, 1867 at Tipton, Staffs.
In 1871 Ann, her younger brother Thomas & parents were living at 4 James St, Wednesbury.
By 1881 the family had moved to 72 Lea Brook Rd, Tipton & Ann had 1 sisters & 4 brothers by this time.
Ann married Charles Henry Smith, a labourer, on December 13th 1886 at St Mark’s, Tipton. Witnesses at the wedding were William Osborne & Mary Shaw. Charles was born 1863 at Tipton, the son of Caroline Owens & Joseph Smith.
In 1891 Charles & Ann, known as Annie, were living at 29 the Coppice, Tipton & Charles was working as a labourer. They had a 1 year old son Charles H.
Charles & Annie were living at 42 the Coppice, Tipton in 1901 & Charles was now a labourer at the iron works. In addition to son Charles they now had Samuel, aged 9.
In 1911 Charles & Ann were living at 20 Old Coppice, Lea Brook Rd, Ocker Hill, Tipton. Charles was described as a pig iron wheeler at the iron works. They had 4 children at home – Samuel, a canal barge steerer & mate, Mary Ann (8), Jack (5) & Lottie (4). It was noted on the census that Ann & Charles had had 11 children, but only 5 were still living. There was also a 21 year old boarder with them, Arthur Lovatt, who worked at the tube works.
Son Charles Henry had married Phyllis Shorthouse in January 1911 & they were also living at Old Coppice, Tipton at the time of the census.
Daughter Lottie married Edward Ashley J Holl in 1925 at Dudley.
Charles died in 1934, aged 71, at Tipton.
The 1939 register shows widowed Annie living at 54 Gospel Oak Rd, Tipton. As well as domestic duties Annie was also a shop keeper.
